Hi, I’m Kurt Stauffer
»No witness is better than your own eyes«
From Ethiopia
I was just 19 years young when I set foot on African soil. I knew nothing about politics and history. And that was a good thing… back then.
Why to Africa?
People who want to know more about me often ask me this question.
When I decided to emigrate to South Africa as a young man, I knew nothing at all about South Africa. It didn’t interest me at that time, because I only wanted one thing: to get away from the gray everyday life in Switzerland!
It had not been easy for me the first time and there were days when I questioned myself:
»Am I crazy? Do I regret it? Was it just a quick fix or even a therapy to find myself?«
Looking back, it was definitely nature that fascinated me so much and captured my heart. Like a magnet, it kept pulling me out of the city and into this unique world:
The bush with its different scents, the vastness, the tranquility, the bird and animal life.
It has never been a certain place that you visit quickly over the weekend. It was like magic for me, something that was rooted in me. I had to stay in the wilderness often and always longer. It was a part of my inner being, something that was present in me but I had forgotten.
I found it and that is what I want to share with you and remind you that we are all a part of this nature.
On the road at a young age
P.S. Of course, I would have to write a lot more about myself here. That I lived in South Africa for over 20 years. That I successfully ran my own business there. That I have a certificate as a game rancher. That I speak many languages – including the local Afrikaans. But such self-praise is far from my mind. I want you to feel what I am all about when I guide you through southern Africa.
